Líl̓wat Nation Projects - Preserve, Celebrate & Reclaim.
For the past year we've been working on a number of projects for Líl̓wat Nation here in Pemberton, BC. In the hopes of preserving their culture we have been editing a video for Basket Weaving. An art that has been around for decades. Believe it or not, these baskets take about a year to be completed, from digging the roots, to making the baskets their are specific steps to follow. We embark on a journey with Vera, an elder, while she explains how to complete these baskets. Better, we have her explain these steps in the language. With the subtitles we have included on this movie they
teach you both the language and how to make baskets. This project has thought me about the culture, I have so much respect for the Líl̓wat Nation and it has been a pleasure to work wiht Lois, cultural centre's manager.
This photo was taken on the ground breaking ceremony in Whistler BC. We captured the ceremony and produced a video for the Líl̓wat Nation. Soon they will start building a gas station, ran and operated by the Líl̓wat Nation. It was a really emotional day for the community and Lois's grand child (in the photo) participated in the ceremony and was responsible of the shovel breaking the ground. I feel so special being the one capturing this moment for this little guy. He will cherish these photos forever, one day reclaiming and celebrating his culture.
